Recently, I’ve been looking for quick, easy and fun recipes for little hands to help with. My girls love to help in the kitchen. They are at the age where they love hands-on learning, and I like to encourage that wherever I can. Plus, they get to see a product from start to finish. They are so proud where their daddy gets home and asks them what they have done all day. Accomplishment is such a self-esteem booster!
Just about every year for Christmas, my MIL makes Puppy Chow and it NEVER lasts long! Puppy Chow has always been a favorite snack in our household. So I thought to myself… why only enjoy it at a specific time of year?? Why not add a twist and enjoy it multiple times a year?? So this year the girls and I made an Easter Puppy Chow!
Ingredients
- 9 cups Chex cereal
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup M&Ms
Instructions
- In a large bowl, pour in Chex cereal and set aside
- In a medium saucepan, heat chocolate chips and peanut butter on low. Mixing frequently until melted.
- Once the chocolate is melted, remove from heat and mix in vanilla extract.
- Pour the chocolate mixture over the Chex cereal. Lightly stir until the mixture is evenly spread.
- Add powdered sugar to the chocolatey Chex mixture. Stir lightly until powdered sugar is evenly spread throughout the bowl.
- Set the bowl in the refrigerator to cool.
- Once the Chex mixture is cooled, add M&Ms. Stir lightly to spread.
- Store in airtight containers.
I call this Holiday puppy chow because you can interchange the M&Ms to correlate with the current holiday! Your local convience store typically carries these seasonal M&Ms. You can also add any candy to the puppy chow you desire to make it fun and tasty! I hope you all enjoy this chocolatey treat as much as my family does!!
Blessings,
Erica
